Dear Friend of Memorial!
As we bring 2016 to a close I want to thank you for being a part of our extended Memorial family. I am grateful to have come into such a unique and open Church and want to thank each and every one of you for welcoming me to the Church and to the Neighborhood; and for your ongoing emotional and financial support of this institution.
Memorial is a unique parish in that we are so much more than what happens on Sunday morning. From the ongoing work of Samaritan Community, to Memorial Players, to our ‘open door policy’ for all kinds of community and city-wide meetings, we have been and will continue to be for years to come a Neighborhood Church that seeks to be a space of Sanctuary, Opportunity and Hope for everyone who comes across our doors.
This year as my family handed out Halloween Candy on the Church steps we marveled at the the incredible diversity of the neighbors and friends connected to this place. The smiles, handshakes, and stories about ‘that time when…’ remind me what a treasure Memorial is to the Bolton Hill and broader West Baltimore community. It is an honor to be a steward of that legacy and a challenge to keep it going. As you make your year end gifts, I hope you will make a gift to memorial to continue that legacy. This year we have spent more than $100,000 dollars on capital improvements to guard and protect that legacy; and we are well aware that the costs will only go up from there. By contributing to Memorial this year, you will help us to continue to improve our physical space so that the next generation, and many generations to come, will continue to consider Memorial home – whether it is for neighborhood meetings, yoga classes, AA support groups; or for the many social justice and community development causes that have and will call Memorial home.
Thank you for the welcome, thank you for your support, and thank you for your contributions that will allow the unique mission of Memorial to thrive in 2017 and for many years to come.
The Rev. Grey Maggiano
