Guest Speaker – Michael Green Michael Green is a 71-year-old African American male who comes with many life experiences that have shaped and molded him into what may be described as one of God's miracles. Mr. Green is a God-fearing man who remains on a mission to always help others. Mr. Green was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on December 18th, 1952. He has one older sister. When he was two years old, his family relocated to New York City. His formal years of education were spent within the New York City public school system. After graduating high school in 1971, Mr. Green attended Bowie State University for one year. Unable to return to college, Mr. Green worked for IBM as a litigation clerk for three years. In 1976, Mr. Green joined the United States Air Force. He received an honorable discharge two years later due to medical reasons. In 1981, Mr. Green began his career in the Human Service sector. In May 2000, Mr. Green graduated from Lincoln University in Lancaster, PA, a prestigious Black Institution of Higher Learning, with a master's in human services. Over the past 43 years, he has gained massive insight into the barriers and social injustices the citizens of Baltimore City face. He has worked with Baltimore City youth and is currently a Substance Use Disorder Clinician. Mr. Green has dedicated his time and effort to becoming an agent of change. Mr. Green works in many capacities in the human services field and remains a dedicated service worker, wishing to help others improve the quality of their lives.

It has always seemed a risky endeavor - however, right now nothing seems more important than learning how to work across differences and listen with love to those who are very, very different from us.

Repairing the Breach this Christmas
There are two opportunities for Memorial to connect with our neighbors this Christmas Season. We will be collecting soaps, toiletries, small gifts, candies, and other small items for the Seniors at the Linden Park Apartment Building. If you have items to donate you can bring them this Sunday or Next Sunday. Additionally, if you have extra stockings around your house that would be helpful as well! There will be a large Tupperware in the rear of the Church where you can drop off items.
Additionally, at the request of one of our Reparations Partners - City Weeds and Brown Girl Wellness, we are helping to support a Christmas Party on December 16th at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum for local families. Volunteers are needed to bake, to read books to children at the party, and to help at the event. There are also a few 'wish lists' for gifts for the Children available below. If you can ensure that items are delivered before December 14th that would be very helpful. IF you would prefer to make a financial contribution instead you are welcome to do so.

The training will take place at Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 27th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

During the month of February, the Department of Public Works aims to engage communities in leading an environmentally conscious lifestyle by protecting and caring for the environment with its new initiative, the BMore LOVE Volunteer Network.
BMORE LOVE (Learn. Organize. Volunteer. Engage) allows schools, businesses, organizations, non-profits, faith-based institutions and communities to host and participate in activities and events supporting the City’s efforts to keep Baltimore cleaner, greener, and beautiful.
With this initiative, DPW promotes anti-littering, proper trash disposal, recycling and saving the environment. By participating, volunteers can earn Stormwater Fee Credits on their City water bills. Volunteers who participate but do not reside in Baltimore City can “gift” their Stormwater Fee Credits to a City resident in need. Youth volunteers are able to obtain Service Learning hours that count toward high school graduation.

The Diocese of Puerto Rico has been devastated by Hurricane Fiona. Our Canon for Latino Ministries, the Rev. Margarita Santana, and I have been in contact with Bishop Rafael Morales and his staff. Bishop Morales told us about the damage the storm has done.
Puerto Rico is our beloved companion diocese, and our friends there need our help. Their homes have been damaged, crops have been destroyed and access to clean water is becoming a concern. The staff in the Diocese of Puerto Rico are working hard to care for the people and meet the needs of all who have been impacted.
As a Community of Love, I call upon you to support their efforts by taking up an offering on Sunday, October 2 in each of our congregations. Together, I believe we can help in a meaningful way to support our companion diocese in Puerto Rico in their time of need.

The FBBG Demonstration Project provides free comprehensive training to participants on requirements for operating a business in Baltimore City, and information on developing, marketing, and implementing best business practices. Eligible participants include those who are not attending college or on a professional employee career track. Professional guest lecturers have committed to volunteer their time and talents to provide training on the curriculum’s vital business-related topics.
The program consists of eight sessions scheduled from July 16, 2022 to September 3, 2022, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Training will occur at St. Katherine Church’s Undercroft, 2001 W. Division Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21217. Each session consists of a morning lecture and an afternoon session in which participants complete “hands on” tasks relating to the development of their businesses. I am asking parish members to serve as hosts. The program will be repeated Spring, 2023.
The FFBG Demonstration Project is looking for volunteers and would appreciate if interested individuals would sign up to be a host or hostess for at least one training day.
The host or hostess responsibilities consist of the following:
Assist with the sign in process - temperature checks; complete COVID form
Address housekeeping matters during and after the program
Help set up power trips
Distribute snacks and water

Education for Ministry (EfM) invites participants into small, facilitated groups that provide the framework for understanding life and shaping actions as Christian faith is deepened. This program studies Christian Scripture, history, and theology and teaches a theological reflection method to apply our Christian tradition to the experiences of our lives. You will learn how to articulate your faith and how to shape your faith into action. Learn more at http://efm.sewanee.edu.
Two EfM groups are enrolling participants for the upcoming program year which begins in September. One group meets Thursday mornings via Zoom, and the other meets in person on Tuesday evenings.

Background
As the summer months approach and area schools close, many of us are concerned about the increase in community violence. The leading cause of death for teens and young adults nationally is gun homicide. Sadly, over the past five years, homicide has been the primary cause of fatality among children in Baltimore City ages 7-17.
The Baltimore City Health Department recently reported that over the past six months, 11 infants are suspected to have died due to unsafe sleep environments. This is the highest number of deaths to occur in such a short time in more than 10 years. In response to this, the B'more for Healthy Babies Citywide Initiative is
launching an ambitious safe sleep awareness campaign this summer.
B'More for Healthy Babies @ Promise Heights/SWCOS will conduct outreach and co-host "respite centers" with local faith-based and community-based organizations in efforts to keep residents safe and adequately resourced. Residents can stop by to cool off from the summer temperatures, receive water and nutritious snacks or a
meal, receive referrals for direct services and essential supplies, and meet on-on-one with a social worker or spiritual counselor.
Ultimately, we hope to assist residents with decompressing from life's stressors and provide resources to support their minds, bodies, and spirits. Below is a list of supports that we think would be helpful. Please feel free to add additional supportive services at your host site.
Respite Center Support Services
Cooling: Faith/spiritual-based organization will open their doors for several hours throughout the week to provide a space where residents and congregants can "cool down" by receiving food, water, and on-hands support services provided by community health workers, social workers, and spiritual counselors in a building cooled by central air conditioning.
Food: Freedom Food will distribute healthy, hot prepared meals for families weekly to address food shortages and the increase in food prices in the neighborhood. Local sites may also offer food from their food pantries to support other identified food and nutritional needs.
Outreach: B'More for Healthy Babies/SWCOS and host site staff will be present at the centers to make referrals and connect families to direct supportive services (substance use, mental health, etc.).
Meditation & Prayer: Spiritual counselors and faith leaders will provide spiritual supports in the form of arts, meditation, prayer, and deep breathing to support families' spiritual needs.

Internationally acclaimed pianist Wan-Chi Su has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Asia, Europe, and throughout the United States. She has played major venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Cortot in Paris, and Taiwan National Concert Hall. Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Dr. Su began piano lessons at age four. She earned a bachelor’s degree in piano, minoring in French horn, at the National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan, followed by a Master of Music, a Graduate Performance Diploma, and a Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Conservatory. She was also the music director at The Episcopal Church of Holy Covenant from 2013-2020.

The Science Guys of Baltimore is a branch of Mr. Bond and the Science Guys (Nashville) offering exciting science presentations and demonstrations in the greater Baltimore area including surrounding counties such as Hartford, Howard, and Montgomery County. Each of our presentations are designed to be incredibly FUN but they also teach kids the fundamentals of the scientific method and the kids don't even know that they are learning!
The Science Guys will be doing five weeks of gender-inclusive camps designed for kids aged 5-12 between June 20th and August 19th! Most weeks have two sessions per day and every session has an exciting science theme!
